Remote control software

I am looking for some suggestions on a cheap 'read freeware' software package.
I have a server set up on my home network and need to access it like im at the console from a different room.

So something on the lines of PCAnywhere only maybe a small shareware.
I do not need any fancy whistles or bells, just the ability really to run a couple of programs and shut it down.

I use VNC and its free. You can access if via console or web.
