I have been unable to push out the Remote Agent so have been following instructions for manual installation.

The client does not appear to be functioning correctly. When attempting to create backup jobs servers C$ and Microsoft Information Store are grayed out.

My initial backup exec install didn't have an issue and since moving to a different server this has happened.

Starting to panic as need to be able to backup my exchange servers.

I'm having a similar problem as well. Moved Backup Exec 10 to a different server (one that would be less utilized by other programs) and didn't have any issues. Now I'm trying to add a new server to production environment. I can install the extra Remote Agent license I have, but the C$ and E$ boxes are greyed out when I try to add it to the backup list.

It seems to be a problem with the new remote server b/c I can take that same license and load it on another server and it works. Hopefully the solution is the same for both of our probelms.

There's a gotcha with the agent manual installation, the setupaa.cmd file doesn't like being run across unc paths. What I usually do is this: Copy the RANT32 folder (remote agent for nt 32 bit) usually in c:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Agents\ to the desktop of the Server to which you're installing the agent. Then open the RANT32 folder and doubleclick the setupaa.cmd file. Open your services mmc and verify a backup exec agent is now listed. Now retry your backup.

If you feel so inclined, you can remove the previous Agent software on the servers before installing the new verison. I rarely have problems though.

Obviously, choose the agent for the version system you're running. Hope this helps.

HI wlfpackr;
You need to check your firewall. The firewall must be off, otherwise you won't be able to add any files from the server you want to add to the schedule..Your company has firewall server.

Well, I finally fixed my problem after weeks of struggling with this one. Not sure if the original poster ever got his/hers squared away.

For some reason the Remote Agent was listening on Port 9000 instead of 10000. I removed the agent, changed the Port # to 10000 in the services file and after reloading the agent again, I was able to check the boxes for C$ and E$ on the server. Not sure if you have to do it in that order, but that's what worked for me.
