how do I remotely administer a windows 2000 box? I have installed the admin tools, and there is no VPN MMC. It's on microsoft windows XP, is the client.
Note: I could be wrong so please correct me if you know better.
Looks like there's an .MDB file and some registry values that would need to be present on the XP system for this to work. I have support tools installed on my XP system and I don't get an MMC snap-in for RRAS, nor will it run if I simply copy the files for the snap-in over from the server...but my servers can manage RRAS regardless of whether they have RRAS installed. I don't know what might happen if you simply copy the .MDB file and create those registry values or export them from your RRAS box but it seems risky and like too much work when you can just use RDP instead! Either way, I used a utility from
called Process Explorer to see which files/values in the registry get tapped by the RRAS MMC snap-in.
What about the command line? You could install an SSH server for Windows on the box or if your session is encrypted start telnet on the server to access CMD then study up on the usage of netsh to configure your RRAS options. Good luck!
