We have a single domain with some NT4 servers and we wish to grant remote access to a limited number of people. We have several modems that need to be pooled together. We have found several products to do this, but what we have not seen is an actual plan to assist in the deployment. Thank you in advance.

We have a dialconnect service with Telstra.
You get unlimited connections.

several issues here.

1. you need to install modems on the servers
more then 4 modems COM1 - COM4 you might need
something more professional, we use 8 port DIGI cards
here

2. you need to install the remote access and routing
service and configure the RRAS service for the modems

3. you want to pool phone lines, this is a telco issue,
familiarly here called a hunt group, dialing one phone
number will roll over to several other phone lines if
the first is busy.

decide what resources the dial user will need access to,
this will decide if/how your are to assign ip addresses and what protocols you will need to allow dial in users to have.

install the modems

installing the RRAS service is fairly easy, NOT RAS, but RRAS, download the latest version from MS. RAS has some
securit issues.

configure the RRAS service to use the modem, fairly straight forward, there is a wizard like program in RRAS the
will do most of the work.

edit the user accounts, clink in the dial-in button and allow users to dial into the network.

call your telco to configure the hunt group.

test, test, test.......

implement some sort of authentication tool, or the dial back to the users for security.

We use a cisco 3600 router with a 16 port modem bank. this is not a cheap option however it works great. They also have a radius server software that you can use to track a user time online and usage. VPN is also something that you might consider. This does not require you to purchse any hardware that is if you have a spare server.(preferably W2k)

These are just my 2cents worth Thanks
