Hi,

Our company uses Exchange 2000 for email, I have a few users that have Notebook PCs and are often on the road, so far they are using .pst files to store tehir settings.

I just implemented VPN access to our network and would like to set those users to get their mail through MS Exchange.

Here's the situation:

The users will be conneting through dial up most of the time, I have created a new profile on their Notebooks and selected MS Exchange settings with the traveling option, but when I try to view the email without being connected to the internet I get a message that says:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened"

How can I allow the users to keep a local copy of their emails withour using .pst files?

Thanks.

Rgds.

Rene

If you've enabled offline working correctly, then Outlook should open fine without being connected to a server.

You'll have to conenct to the Exchange server and synchronise the first time, though. This takes the copy of the mailbox off the server and puts it locally in the OST file.

Thanks for the reply zbnet.

How do I check to see if offline working has been enabled properly?

Thanks for your help.

Rgds.

Dear :
Pls try to enable the web mail services within Exchange 2000, thus all users can directly check the e-mail from the web pages instead of using OE. It is much convenient for travellers.

Hi George,

Thanks for the suggestion, Most of the users are able to check their mail through Outlook Web Access and they are happy, however; I have 2 users that prefer not to use OWA and they happen to be very high in the company (you know how that is).

Rgds.
