When trying to make a network connection I get the following error. Error 711. A configuration error on this computer is preventing this connection. How do I fix this? I went into services and tried to start the Remote Access Connection Managerbut I got an error there as well. I also went into the registry and deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26. I then rebooted and tried it again. No luck.

Oh, I should mention this is on Windows XP Home. I know the forum is for Windows XP Pro. But I don't know what else to try and thought someone might have an idea.

Thanks,

711
A connection could not be established because a required service was not started on your computer. Make sure the following services are started on your computer and try again to establish the connection:

• Plug and Play
• Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

The dependent services are Remote Procedure Call, Plug and Play, Telephony and DCOM Service Launcher.

What is the running status of RPC? Of Plug and Play? Of Telephony?

Maybe not relevant this time but the Netlogon service running will block an RA connection.

Have you got a System Restore Point from before the error occurred?

Anything in the Event Viewer?

Thank you so much for your responses. Actually, I finally remembered about the system restore. That worked.
