remember field values on refresh

Hi,

I have a form where pop-up windows are used to populate the cells (pop-up sets variable, refreshes parent then closes). Obviously on the refresh; everything that has been entered into the parent window gets lost. At the moment the pop-up sets a session variable (CF) and then on refresh the cell has a value of that var, can i just use javascript to populate the cell without a page refresh?

Give the popud a reference to the parent window and modify the fields withour submitting the form.

That sounds ideal! - but my javascript knowledge is somewhat lacking... can you give me a bit more to go on?
