Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help.

We have mail coming in through a a winproxy server which forwards all incoming smtp requests to the exchange 5.5 server.

However it appears that exchange considers the e-mail arriving on its internal interface is internal mail and therefor allowed to relay to the outside world.

Even if we change winproxy to port forward rather than act as a mail proxy, exchange still allows relaying.

Is there a way to set the ip addresses that are not allowed to relay mail outside of our 5 domains

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi!
You can disable Open Relay in Exchange 5.5 by using the Routing Restrictions option in IMS (Internet Mail Service). It is available after you apply SP3 or SP4 for Exchange 5.5. For prior versions you have to apply changes in the registry.
Here you can see how this can be done:

Thanks Guys,

Got it working. The mistake i was making was shown in one of those articles where it said that exchange looks through all the routing rules for one that will allow it to relay, even if that particular IT is specifically listed as not being allowed to relay.

Thanks for your help.
