Hi,
My boss will wipe out everything from a server and start it from scratch. The operating system on the server is window 2000 server. I installed SQL server 2000 on the server; and applied PK3a and MS03-31 hotfix on it.
My question is how do I bring the system back to the current stage after he rebuilds the server. I plan to do the following things:
1. Backup systems and users databases before he wipes out everything on the server.
2. After he installed the OS, I will install SQL server 2000, then apply PK3a and MS03-31 hotfix on it.
3. Restore master database
4. restore other system and user databases

Will the above 4 steps bring back the logins, jobs and database backup plans that I created on the server? If the answer is no, how can I save the logins, jobs and database backup plans.

Boss is always right. Please help me.

The logins are in the master database.
The jobs are in the msdb database.
The DTS packages are in the msdb database.
The maintaince plans are in the msdb database.

If you back those up and restore them you should be fine. Make sure that when you rebuild the server it is running the exact same patch level as it currently is.

Why on earth is your boss rebuilding the server.

The boss isn't always right. It's our job to tell him that.
