when i start my PC up it goes through the full bussiness of loading...get's to the winXp logo and the blue bar showing progress...it finishes and then a blue screen flashes up with "REGISTRY_ERROR 0x00000051"

And stops the system....i have to power off to get the system to do anything.

i have tried to reinstall windows but the same thing happens after the load up looks for previously installed windows.

I have tried everything, removed all hardware and booted on a clean system, i have reset the CMOS, i have tried another HD and no luck....WTF could it be?

i run a Win XP professinal sevice pack 1 OS
2.6GHz Celeron
1024MB DDR 333 2700
128MB ATi Radeon 9200
80GB Matrox HD
MSI Motherboard (MS-6533E)
Soundblaster Audigy 1

God knows can anyone help?

I think (but I an not 100% sure) that with this error you may only be able to fix it with a reformat and clean install of XP.

You will know this is likely if you are unable to enter either Safe Mode or the Recovery Console to perform any type of repair. (Post back if you if you can perform any of the above steps).

This applies to 2000 not XP, but it may provide some insight into your error.

HOW TO: Partition and Format a Hard Disk in Windows XP (Q313348)

Read the paragraph,
"How to Partition and Format Your Hard Disk by Using Windows XP Setup."

For more help (shows enlargeable screenshots) go here.

Try new memory first. Just throw in a small (256m) strip, it will run OK to see of that is the problem.

Yea tried this but i couldn't get past the winxp logo....and the blue screen would appear.....

I solved it by creating a win98se startup disk with fdisk for large capacity HD's booted with the floppy and formated the fecked drive....didn't lose anything important but it took me seven hours to sort as i was swapping between one power supply, monitor and one working floppy drive...plus out of the seven floppy's i had six didn't work!!!

How did we ever manage with the bloody things!

Thanks anyway guys ;-)
