Hi,

I am writing a program that sets registry settings for certain applications. There is one setting I need to be able to access in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE but if the user is not logged on as administrator this can't be changed.

Does anyone know if there is a way of programatically bypassing the security privaleges to other keys in the registry?

TIA
Wux.

Hi,

Without sounding rude, the security features (maybe i could choose a more accurate word ) in windows is there to avoid you doing just that.

Instead i would suggest running your program as administrator or having the application write to HKEY_CURRENT_USER (i know this is not possible if you didnt write it).

Hi,

No, this wasn't rude it was just not very constructive.

The settings I need to access are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, which is why i'm trying to access it.
Yes the security 'features' are to stop the average user causing damage but Microsoft have provided the functionality to bypass this in a controlled way (rather than giving every user admin rights or logging on to each machine as administrator). I just wanted to know if anybody had experience doing it in the past.
