registering installed programs after reinstall

I just reinstalled Win XP Pro.

Is there any way to "re-register" the software that is already installed on the machine. All my programs are there, but file associations, shortcuts etc are gone.

Also, Window overwrote my "my documents" folder. I used a utility to try and recover the original one, but no luck. Any advice on effective ways to accomplish this? I urgently need recent files that had not been included in the last back up.
 
I got mad and overwrote the installation. I didn't have a local admin password, so i couldn't repair or start windows to create one.
 
Then:

1. You will have to reinstall the software
2. You will have to explore data recovery options:
