I have an Access DB set up with a Front End & Back End. In the Back End is 7 ODBC Tables, these tables need to be refreshed everyday.

My first question is which is the more efficient method for ODBC - importing the tables or linking the tables?

My second question is can I program Access to refresh the tables everyday at a certain time? - Would I have to use a batch file? I have little to no experience of batch files so if batch files are the best way to do this please be kind! :)

Thanks in advance
Ben

If you link the tables, you shouldn't need to refresh them as you will be looking at the current data - unless of course you specifically want to so you don't alter the remote data.

Access does not allow database-specific command-line parameters, which would make it awkward to get it to do something specific once it has opened a database. However, you could create another 'refresh' database that is linked to both sets of tables, that has a form loaded on startup that would refresh the tables then quit.

To schedule a task (WinNt/2000/XP, not Win9x), either use the command-line at utility, or use the GUI in Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks
