Hello,

We want to save some money here and are looking at reducing our PRI b channels from 23 down to 11. Service provider is onboard and ready to go.

We're using IP Office 8.1 and the PRI is the only outside line type that we have. All 23 channels are both marked as Incoming and Outgoing Group 0, Direction: Bothway, Bearer: Any, Service: None, Admin: In service. All Incoming Call Routes use Line Group ID 0.

From a programming standpoint, would all we need to do is mark channels 12-23 as Out of Service, or is there something I'm missing? Searched around the forum and haven't seen anything on reducing PRI channels...

Thanks!

Shouldnt need to do anything to the system as the line provider will limit the number of calls allowed.

Thanks Pepp. The line provider is a small local company and he told me that I'd need to make changes on my end...but there's a good chance he doesn't actually know that for sure since he doesn't touch systems.

Okay I know in the UK you can set the IPO to any number of channels and only the amount you have with the provider are usuable. In Spain you need to licence all 30 channels of the ISDN on the IPO even if you only have 8 channels with the provider.

In the US I would therefore assume that you need to go to the channels tab of the line and change the Admin option to Out of Service for the channels above the number you have with the provider (unfortunately all my US customers have full 24 channel PRIs)

This should be pretty easy on both ends really. On your end simply setting channels 12-23 out of service should be it. On their end just starting at channel 11 instead of 23 and only allowing calls on channels 1-11.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Thanks Pepp and Critchey. The folks that sold me the system are telling me that it's complicated and that they need to do the service call for me.

I think I'll try making the change myself as you've both described and worst case set it back and have the pros take care of it. Will report back once complete.

Cheers!

That's all there is to it. I did it just last week. Just set the channels as OOS and you are done.

pmcook, Thanks for the validation, much appreciated!

I would get the line provider to reduce the number of channels on the circuit & see what happens

I doubt that there would be any issues, in the event that you do have problems then you can set the channel out of service as advised.

I would also find another maintainer, 1 they should be able to do this remotely for a reasonable charge, 2 it is such a minor change that many maintainers would probably give the advise on how to do it as good will (I know we would) with a warning op possible charges if you break things.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

100% agree this is very minor and could easily be done remote or just having you do it. It takes all of 2 minutes to go over how to do it. If they remote it would take maybe 15 minutes which includes remotely connecting, making the changes, and fully testing it. I would be leary of a maintainer like that.
