Hi there -
My background is more on the programming side and basic DNS set up (plugging in an IP and walking away). So here's a specific issue I have run into:
We have a website on one server and it works fine, but we host one portion of it on another server due to configuration/software issues. What was currently set up by someone other than myself (who I cannot ask for help/has not responded) is this:
is mapped to
(to be clear, I don't know if it's mapped to an ip address/directory or domainname/directory but I would think it really doesn't matter -- I can do either, I suppose)
and -- here's the kicker -- any subpage under comes up under the URL we want:
so
shows up as
and so on and so forth.
I thought this would be easy to do. I was either wrong or I am just plain stupid. I have multiple registrars available to control the DNS (GoDaddy, Bluehost, enom, Dotster, Register.com, etc.) and some range from the useless to somewhat good, but all are focused on just that domain name -- and nowhere can I see anything about mapping a directory or specific URL and maintaining the domain afterward.
I would love not to have to do this but I am backed in a corner and am just trying to meet a need. I would appreciate any help as I have spent hours trying to figure out a solution.
If you need more details, let me know! Thanks in advance for your help!
Greg
