I just reran the XP CD to fix corrupt files and in the setup process it asked for the 'asm' file location. Since I do not know where they would be except on the CD, I cancelled that dialogue window. The computer restarted and then setup restarted and finished.

My question is "What is asm and what is it used for?" If it is something I need then please tell me where it would be on the CD.

Also, I need to know what startup (MS) programs "I DO NOT NEED" so I can get them out of the startup menu/process. My computer slowed down considerably since I fixed the files. Any other 'speed up' tweaks will be appreciated.

I have about two weeks more with trying to get XP to work on my 1.4Ghx machine at the speed it should be running, otherwise, it's gonna be gone.

Thanks in advance.

See if this helps with ASMS or do a Google search for it.

Have a look at this site for getting rid of any unrequired services and programs running in the background ans slowing you down.

Thanks for your help linney. My system is running now so I won't screw with the registry. I was just curious to know what asm was. From the new forum added to my login I can assume it is some assembler program for use with diff apps.
