Hi guys,

For all you Linux guru's out there.....

We have an IBM eServer xSeries 345 server that we are trying to install RedHat 7.3 on. The server has an internal LSI logic raid controller which is controlling a mirrored 18gb pair of HDDs, also installed in this server is an Adaptec 39160 scsi controller card, attached to this cadr is an external RAID box.

The problem that we are having is that RedHat 7.3 detects the EXTERNAL raid box as /dev/sda and the internal mirrored pair is detected as /dev/sdb.

1. Im not sure why the internal mirrored pair is appearing as /dev/sdb - in the post it is the FIRST detected HDD.

2. Even if the internal mirrored pair is /dev/sdb - I should still be able to boot off this drive? I cant seem to get linux to boot off it. During the install I select the destination correctly & also select the boot record to be written to /dev/sdb, but onde the install has completed & the server reboots it finishes the POST & all I get in the screen is:

GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB....etc...etc

Can anyone shed any light on this situation??

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

I selected boot from first partition then I got this message too.And I re-installed it.
So I selected boot from MBR.It was no problem again.
You would like to install boot from first partition. If you will create dual boot MS and Linux on your server.
Good Luck....:)
