Hello
I have a system with a K6 233 and 64 M ram. I'm using Boot Manager with Win 95, OS/2 Warp, and Linux (Redhat 6.2). Everything works fine. I'm slowly switching to run everything under Linux. I recently tried installing a K6-2 300. Win95 has no problems with the new processor. OS/2 and Linux will not boot. Linux starts booting, displaying Loading Linux......... The cursor jumps to the next line, then stops. No errors, nothing. It isn't decompressing the kernel. I've reinstalled with no success. Putting the K6 233 back fixes things. Any ideas on how to get the K6-2 to work?

Thanks

uncertain but since they are different CPUs, Linux I know compiles the configuration into the Kerenel, so I would assume you need to change a setting before shutting down and installing the new CPU.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

I would try compiling a very generic kernel with minimal support with ppp/ 386 processor, and whatever support you need in case of emergency.
then after setting it as a boot option, LILO or otherwise. Make sure you make a rescue floppy and reboot.

test the configuration with the K-6/233 first to be sure it works fine there, then shutdown.
and install the K6/300(k6-2/300 (there are some minor differences btw.
check the amd website for details.

if the problem persists, i would suggest cheating, stick your install cd in, and tell it 'upgrade to 6.2', i find sometimes that is helpful.

Peace and Good Fortune.

Thomas Keats
tkeats@rainbowcomputersystems.com
