I have an IPO 406 that we had been using in our office. For a few weeks the phones would have "unknown error" on the display at random times, restarting them and forcing the previous logon off the phone would get it working again. Yesterday the switch stopped completely and the red light on the front comes on solid. There is no response from the serial port, but the built-in hub on the front is still passing data. Any ideas or is my IPO dead?

You should check to see if your serial cable is correct. You would be really unlucky to get absolutely nothing from the serial port.

You need a standard modem cable (similar to what you get with a 3COM external modem).

Follow the help file in Manager to setup the Hyperterminal session, and ensure that once the session is open, you reboot the IPO whilst pressing Escape every second.

You should see a boot loader. The red light indicates that the IPO is waiting for something. Generally if there is a fault, you still get the error or exception through the serial port even if you can't get a boot loader. IP Office also requires that you use CAPS in Hyperterminal, otherwise you get no response using AT commands.

I have had lots of IPO's in a similar state, and in all my time working on Alchemy and IPO, I have never had a totally dead CCU.

Let me know your progress.

I had been using a null modem, I'll try the straight through cable next.
Thanks

out of intrest do you get a TFTP request from the box in manager?

I get no action from the serial port with any odd combination of cables and no tftp requests. It seems to be about as dead as possible. I've got a spare on the way to get put in tomorrow.
Thanks for the pointers

I tried plenty of things with the serial cables and never got it back to life. We got our warranty replacement and it's giving us tons of "undefined errors" on the IP phones. We are running 3.0.40 and had not had any problems prior. There are only about 5 or 6 phones registered, three hunt groups, pretty small configuration. There is nothing strange in the monitor program when it stops. Anyone seen this?
