Hello,
I have an IBM T-22 laptop that I'm trying to install RH 9 on. I have it set to boot off the CD and it gets to the main screen with the boot up options. I've tried all boot options and it goes thru the media check and stops with the cursor just blinking at the bottom of the screen. No other operating systems on the drive.
900mhz - Pentium III - 128 MB RAM - Savage/IX 1014 Display Adapter - 20GB drive - IBM 1024x768 monitor - Crystal SoundFusion Blaster Interface - Intel 21143 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. This is a boxed set of CD's from Red Hat.
Whats the trick to getting the install to go?
Dmac,

RhythmAce,
I enter the noprobe command and it still does the same thing. It happens on every command that they give in the options.
Dmac,

What is the last operation that completes successfully before the install halts?

I've had problems with some hardware and RedHat's anaconda hardware investigation app.

Hey Guys,
I found out the drive was going bad on the system. I tried to load Win2K back on it and it wouldn't load. I got message the drive was unformatted or damaged. I would try to reformat it and it would get about 50 % and stop and make a real loud clicking sound.
Thanks,
Dmac,

sleipnir214,
Got a new drive.
Here is the last entry before install halts.

Redundant entry in the serial pci_table. Please send the output of lspci - v v,this message (11c1,045c,8086,2205) and the manufacturer and name of serial board or modem board to - pci-infolist.sourceforge.net.
I have the modem disabled right now with Win2K on the machine because of a driver problem not letting the machine not shut down.Agere winmodem.
Dmac,

I will add this comment about IBM hardware and Red Hat. I know IBM talks alot about how they support RH but the reality is that they are not there yet. The hardware is still Windows-centric. With that said, I have been very successful in putting Fedora on IBM hardware as Fedora has better and newer hardware detection then RH9. For example, on the IBM desktop we have, RH9 Enterprise did not find the NIC or the sound card. Lindows did, KNOPPIX did, SUSE did and Fedora did. I have not yet tested SUn Java Desktop on it yet but given that Suse worked, SJD should also work fine. Go figure!

Personally, I'm slowly losing my faith in Red Hat overall. I understand having to freeze code bases but they need to stay on top of new hardware.
