__The < recycle bin> in my system ( Win98 SE, Celeron 466, 448 MB Ram ) did not seem to empty completely : the icon showed it was not empty even though there was nothing in it when I double-clicked the recycle bin icon !

__ When I actually deleted some files then emptied the recycle bin, there was a message:

"Cannot delete <filename> : Cannot find specified name. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename"

__The file name apparently belong to a program called " Paranoid v1.4" which I loaded then uninstalled before. This is a file & folder protection program. I am pretty certain it was uninstalled correctly ( I also used "Resplendent Registrar 2.05" to clean up its registry entries ! ).

How can I fix this annoyance ? Any suggestions are most welcomed ...

Try this. reboot and remove the Recycle Bin in DOS. It will be recreated fresh when you reboot.
Restart and hold the CTRL button until you see the boot menu. Choose Command Prompt Only.
At the C:\> type this exactly and press enter.
deltree /y recycled

At the next prompt type win and press enter to reboot to Windows. Try putting something in the Bin and removing it.
Does it work now?

Hello, zaidulon.

[1] Think throughly if you have anything that you might want to salvage from your recycle bin and salvage those before proceed further.

[2] Then append the following line to the end of your autoexec.bat. Edit the colored alphabets. The line below assume you have in total 6 logical drives on your hard disks, named C,D,E,F,G,H.

::----the line below-----
For %%D In (C,D,E,F,G,H) Do deltree /y %%D:\recycled
::----the line above-----

If you have say C,D drives only, then it would be (C,D)---do you get the idea? Note also that "recycled" with a "d" at the end is not a mis-spell. Enter the line as such is important. (Use highlight copy and paste to do it).

[3] Restart your system.

[4] After, delete the same line from your autoexec.bat.

Thanks, Mosaic1 and Tsuji, for the most effective fixes !

The recycle bin is back to normalcy ! How can we ever function optimally without your expert help !

Thanks again,

Easier way.
Open notepad, make something, save it.
Delete it, empty recycle bin.
Even though the icon shows full, if you deleted something via DOS, it messes things up. By creating, then deleting something in windows again, recycled seems to "get it's act together". Cheers,
Jim

Comtech,
That would be true if this were only a matter of the icon not showing correctly. This was not the case here.
