whenever i open my recycle bin folder, the files are missing... it does not show...

but if i click 'empty recycle bin' it prompts me that i have 25 files to delete.. meaning, those files are in my recycle bin but i CAN'T SEE THEM?

anybody experinced the same problem? thnx

The Recycled folder itself can become damaged. Files are moved to the folder and the Recycle Bin on the desktop appears full but you cannot view the contents and the Empty The Recycle Bin command may be unavailable, or simply doesn't work.

Deleting the Recycle Bin and then restarting Windows, which will re-create and restore its functionality. Restart the computer and delete the recycle bin by pressing F8 at the WinXP Startup menu, and then select Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Navigate to the correct drive prompt (ie C or D). Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each line:

attrib -s -h recycled
del recycled

it didnt work... in WinXP it is known as C:\RECYCLER not 'recycled'

i even tried

* attrib -s -h C:\RECYCLER /S /D but didnt work

i know the deleted files exists but i cant see them inside the Recycle Bin, it shows 0 bytes 0 files... but whenever i tried to Empty it, it shows 'Are you sure to delete 49 files?'

... coz i need to see the file that i have deleted

... thnx for your help

Sorry about the error.

Another thing I have seen similar is when anti virus software like Norton is protecting files in the recycle bin.

Sometimes recycle bins in dual boot systems get a bit confused.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Windows.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Let us know how you fix it in the end.

As an after thought, you could see if you can delete recycleR via the Recovery Console. If you try this watch out for the "Set" command in recovery console.
