hi folks,
i run a lab and i am trying to restore a few mailboxes.
I can successfully backup the info store/mailbox store, but when I try to restore it it fails me. I am using NTbackup for 2003 server, after backup is done, then i try to restore and when it says restore TO: Server ( name of the exchange srvr/2003 srvr)

temp location of log file or path file: i store this in the mdbdata folder. im not sure if this is correct.

I am not sure if the mailbox store needed to mounted or not when i restore....All i am trying to do is use recovery storage group and in the instructions it says

1. restore database
2. then create recovery storage groups.....
3.mount the recovery storage group

can someone please help me out and explain why my restore fails? is there a criteria that has to be met when restoring...like dismounting and knocing users off?

thank you

So it looks like your trying to test how to recovery a few mailboxes rather than the whole store.

1. Run backup as normal for exchagne store
2. Add DB to be recovered under recovery storage
3. Name store
4. point database & streaming files to folder/disk with enough space
5. Perform restore as normal, the backup software will restore to the recovery storage, as it get redirected.
6. mount recovery store, and wait a few minutes will it build the tables

Using Exchange Server 2003 Recovery Storage Groups

Hope this points you in the right direction

Andy
