My wife brought home some backup tapes from her company. She said that she wants me to recover messages from someone's "deleted items" box off of the tapes.

Is this even possible?

I know that they use Backup Exec and they use DDS3, both of which I have on my server at home. However, I'm not sure how to do about trying to do this.

Only possible if you set-up a complete recovery server installing exchange with the same site + org name as your wife's company's server. It goes without saying you wouls also need to have the same versions of Veritas and exchange and the same service pack for exchange.

The only way you would have a hope of an easy time is if you were able to restore from the tapes complete databases (backed-up offline). Then you could use third party tools to look at the data without having to set-up a recovery server.

If this is the case you could use Ontrack Power controls.
