We installed a new server over the weekend with exchange 2003. We migrated all of the user mailboxes and all worked well. We then retired the old Exchange server. Actually uninstalled Exchange off of the old server and are using it for something else. The problem is, we totally forgot to migrate the single public folder, and it has some important data. Besides reinstalling Exchange 2000 on to the server, is there any way to grab the folder and migrate it in to the new server?

If you have a backup you should be able to restore it.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Ok, I researched this and everyone said I would have to rebuild the old server and recover the info by migrating.

Out of desperation, all I did is pull the pub.edi and pub.stm off the old backups, dismount the 2003 server, replace the existing pub files on the server, mount the server again.

I got an error that the database was old and needed to be recovered. The dialogue box told me how to recover it... I Right clicked the public folders, told it to recover, and I am done. Works great and no reinstall. Ddont know if that would work with mailboxes, but it worked for public folders.
