I recently upgraded from XP Home SP1 to XP Pro SP2 since then on boot up I get your system has recovered from a serious error and this message

BCCode : a BCP1 : 000181AA BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001
BCP4 : 804E2CC6 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

I checked in the event log and get these details

Error code 00000050, parameter1 d3e9937c, parameter2
00000000, parameter3 b5e97acd, parameter4 00000000.

I've checked all the device drivers and they are ok

Can anyone tell me how to fix this

I agree with bcastner that memory is the most likely suspect. One thing that popped into my usually empty head right away was do you have the latest BIOS for your board? SP2 can raise some unusual issues with the BIOS as I have observed.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Several times the full upgrade from Home to Pro SP2 will/can create many different errors..
1.) recommend upgrade from Home to Pro..
2.) Shut down...restart --> No errors -->
upgrade Pro to SP2.

Thanks for the suggestions, but it still doesn't get rid of the message.

Here's what I have done
booted into safe mode ok no error message.
chkdsk with no errors
system file checked again no errors
memtested and again no errors
verify drivers-disabled all that showed potential problems
Profile is not damaged

Frank I agree that normally it is recommended to check before installing sp2, but this upgrade disc came complete with SP2 and doesn't allow you to do that check.

Any other ideas, this is so frustrating to say the least

Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
The Stop 0x50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory. The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.
--------------------------------------------------------

incompatible software - could still be the #1 bad guy.. Do a rollback/restore to original XP Home...shut down -(clears the memory)- reboot... errors should be gone.... ?? Remove all drivers/programs go back to as "CLEAN install" as possible....Pro has several things that Home does not.(causes imcompatiblely)..Recommend you upgrade to Pro..NO SPx. then reboot then upgrade to SP?.

Take the fact that it works OK in Safe Mode and see if you can isolate why it doesn't work in Normal Mode.

Safe Mode doesn't load drivers or startup programs. You can isolate startup programs by following these articles. If after you have tried them and if it still fails it would tend to suggest a faulty driver.
