My system crashed and I have no backups of the databases. I do however have the original DATA directories including all the .MDF files and the .LOG files. Is there any way that I can recover these databases?

i think you can 'attach' the .mdf and .ldf files to a new sql server. in sql 2000 you can use enterprise manager to do this by right clicking on the database directory and selecting all tasks/attach database but i'm not sure about sql 7.0 or prior. you may want to check out books on line- see 'attaching databases'.
