Hi all,

I have an unusual issue with a database here. I'm not sure about all the ins and outs of the database yet but a form which runs off a query cannot be updated by anybody logging on to a certain PC. However the form works on everybody elses PC's. The PC says recordset not updatable in the bottom of the database. This is also the same when the query is used to add the data dirrectly.

Has anybody seen this before if so how can it be sorted.

By the way the PC was rebuilt last week when the problems started. The DB is on A97 split front end backend all running off the server.

Thanks in advance

You may have a missing reference problem.. I have see something like this before on ceratin PC's.. from that PC get into the code window and then check the references. see if anything is missing.

another thing you can do is, set the forms Recordset Type to Dynaset (Inconsistent Updates).

Sorry its taken so long to reply. I've now had chance to try these, all the referencies are there and I've set the form to inconsistant updates. But it still isn't working, I've had MS Office re-installed, and I've still got the same issue.

Even when logged on as Admin you still can't do anyhting.

Any further advise would be Great
Thanks in advance

Me again,

I've managed to narrow down what is causing this it appears to be to do with the referential integrity. I try and avoid using it (cos I don't really know what it does, and am to lazy to find out), however it is on the DB therefore I'd prefer keep it, does this help with what may be causing it and how to fix it.

Cheers

Hi

The referential integrity is a function of settings in the backend datbase, so is shared for all users, doubt if that is your problem

have you checked that all machines are on the same service pack level?

have you looked at the references and checked the version numbers of the selected libraries between a PC which 'works' and the one which does not?

Hi Again

Just read your post more carefully, you say split frontend/backed all running off the server, does this mean you have the front end on the server too?

The more usual way to do this is to have the FE on each client PC.

Hi Again,

Thank Ken, with what you said above I decided to reset them and it seemed to work a treat. Who knows what was causing it but I guess I should of tried rebuilding the query in the first place.

I'm trying to convince the department to stoe the front end on the users local drive, but they want to leave it on the server. I shall keep pestering them though.

Thanks again
Rob!
