Record sound 1

Hi!

I was wondering if I can record sound while having the posibility of setting the quality, thus for further controlling the output file size.
Is there any API's I can use for this? Is there for sound some basic structure (like frames for video)?
I'm interested in capturing that basic sound structure (if any) and send it with winsock to another computer.
Any isdeas?

Well, I gues this forum is dead... Noone answers any questions about APIs around here. Never mind. I'll do it with DirectX8. It's simpler this way. Thanks, anyway.
Maybe it would be a good idea to merge this forum with the one for Visual Basic(Microsoft): Version 5 & 6.
There are a lot of people who actualy answers the questions.
