Record Number 1

I need to insert a record number text to record displayed, however I need the value to be reset when a new group starts.

eg

Group1

1 Fred
2 Simon
3 Lucy

group2

1 Peter
2 Jone

I have tried putting a formlar in the heading that says

mycnt = 0

then next to the name I have put another formula

mycnt = mycnt1

but all i get it

Group1

1 Fred
1 Simon
1 Lucy

group2

1 Peter
1 Jone

Versions 7 and 8 have a menu option of "Insert -Running Total" which you can use with the following 4 settings:

Field = Any field that is always filled in
Operation = Count
Evaluate = Every Record
Reset = Your Group

If you have an older version you should see the FAQ on running totals, and use the "3 formula" technique to get the syntax right. Ken Hamady
