Record Group Selection Formula - When to Use?

Can someone explain what the difference is between using the Select Expert (or Record Selection Formula) and using the Record Group Selection Formula?

I've always just open the Select Expert and opened the Formula workshop and wrote a formula of what I want to return. Sometimes I would write a conditional formula and apply that to the Select Expert. Was I just creating more formulas than needed?

Any explains of when to use the Selection formulas would be appreciated.

Group Selection Formula allows you to select content based on group summary. For example, show only customers with total sales over $10,000

Record selection formulas can't use summaries.
