Twice in the past two days I've had this err msg on rebooting (after system hangs):

0x000000ca (0x00000003, 0xfcd2e30, 0xe154b168, 0x00000004)

Advice on how to interpret this would be appreciated!

Those are just memory addresses. At what point does the blue screen pop up, and what are the conditions of the hangup that cause you to reboot the server?

Matt

Blue screen pops up when windows is about to load after the hangs which are not associated with any particular user action. Nothing in system log either...

So what's changed recently on your computer? Any new programs, hardware, patches? Have you done an updated virus scan?

I had to do a last know good configuration reboot after an apparent conflict between a newly installed antivirus plugin (for WinGate - which shares ADSL over the network) and NAV on the server. I was testing the AV plugin sending emails with attachments to see how the scanning affected their transmission/reception and the server showed a very quick flashing of the NAV email scan icon for a couple of minutes and things went to hell from there until the LKGC reboot. Since then I've moved critical apps to another WS on the network and am troubleshooting the remaining instability on the server. BTW 16 bit apps wouldn't load right until I reestablished a VDD registry key - don't know if its related and I had a hang before I did that and one since.....

Thanks for your time...

Furthermore, I understand this to be a PNP_DETECTED_FATAL_ERROR and wonder if I have duplicated something with the LKGC reboot which is now causing a conflict?

last known good configuration

don't want to type any more than I have to...

Okay, yes a conflict is possible... Have you tried checking device manager in safe mode for extraneous pnp drivers? Also, this would be a more risky approach, you might try restoring the registry to a previous state. If you don't have a backup, try a registry cleaner. I know of a pretty good one, found at

Good stuff, thanks for that. How would I recognise an extraneous pnp drivers in device manager?

BTW I did check all the system devices in the device manager and none are flagged - you are suggesting I might see more in safe mode? One curious extra, when I scanned pnp devices in the system tree of the device manager, it said the 56K modem was not stopped before it was unplugged etc. which could lead to instability. As I didn't unplug it I figured this was symptomatic of something else - tho with all the instability I haven't tested the modem as it is only infrequently used.

In win95/98 (not sure on 2000, but I'd check it anyways), there are devices that will appear only in safe mode device manager (probably because they were disconnected or removed, not uninstalled)...

Try uninstalling the modem driver, and remove the device, perhaps there is a problem... Boot to safe mode, look for any devices that might be duplicated or have already been removed.
