Recipient Update Service issues.

I'm having an issue changing my exchange recipient update service (RUS) server. I have an exchange server in my domain and I would like to cycle it out with a new one, but I need to give the new server a different name. So I setup the new exchange server and moved all the mailboxes and public folders to my new server. Go to unintall exchange on the old one and I get an error message stating that I can't uninstall it because it's the RUS server.

So I go into system admin and try to change the server but it will only list the server I am trying to remove. Does anyone know how to make the new exchange server available? Do I need to install something on the new one?

Sounds like you didn't wait for the configuration container to replicate, or there is an issue with ad replication.

Rehoming the RUS is fairly simple:

In Exchange System Manager, expand Recipients, and then click Recipient Update Services.
In the column headings that are in the right pane, click Exchange Server to sort the available Recipient Update Services by the Exchange Server computer that hosts them.
Right-click the Recipient Update Service that is hosted on the Exchange Server 2003 computer that you plan to remove, and then click Properties.
On the General tab, next to the Exchange server box, click Browse.
In the Select Exchange Server dialog box, click the name of another Exchange 2000 Server computer as the new server to host the Recipient Update Service, and then click OK two times.
