So, all I have to do is pass a 642-xxx test to recertify my CCNA. If I pass one in October, I'm recertified. If I decide to continue and pass another 642-xxx test in December, did I just recertify my CCNA again? Is my CCNA valid three years from December now? Maybe I pass another 642-xxx in March, do the three years start over again? See where I'm going with this?

The way cisco changed it, I believe that everytime you pass a higher level certification exam than what you are currently rated at, it renews the corresponding lower certification.

If you pass 642-8xx CCNP exam (any of them), it renews your CCNA, etc. I would imagine that each time you pass a 642-8xx CCNP exam it would extend your valid thru date, but I could be wrong on this.

"CCNA... recertification takes place when a candidate passes the current certification exam or any new exam, bearing the prefix 642, at the Professional or Cisco Qualified Specialist level"
