We have 2 buildings using a S8400. The newest building has their own receptionest, so we want stations in the other location to dail their own receptionest when they dial 0 not ours.

Where is this done at?

You need either tenant partitioning or multiple locations for this. With tenant partitioning you can "split" your pbx into segments that form their own domain. With multiple locations you designate a local attendant.

Both are customer options

We have gone through a similar scenario. We didn't want to go down the TP or Multiple Locations route yet so I made the Attendants login agents. If stations want to speak to their own sites receptionist then they dial a vdn. At least this way you can get good reports on the attendants.

Hmm TykeUK sounds interesting.. TP was too complicated to try i'm a novice user. Is this kind of setup in the s84000 admin guide maybe? I dont even know what a VDN is..thats how a newb I am at this system.

The Admin guide will go through handling incoming calls using VDN's (Vector Directory Numbers), Vectors and Hunt groups. Setting this up isn't complicated but you'll need to understand how they all link together to achieve this.
Using this option you will be able to give users vdn numbers to dial which can point to specific hunt groups in which your attendants can be assigned to.

So chances are the user will need to dial some other number or extension besides 0

That's right - they still could dial 0 but without TP etc they could go to any switchboard. Our internal dialplan for vdn's etc are 4 digits long(so the users need to dial 4 digits)but this could be altered by changing the dialplan.

While it is difficult to do TP using the multiple locations parameters makes this a breeze. IMO it is worth looking at that option rather then changing the 0 out function into a set of vdn's.

Not that using VDN's won't work but it does require the end users to change and I think we all know how much they love that :p

I Have two buildings and two attendants. Two seperate PBX's. DCS together using QSig. I defined 00 to the far end operator by assigning a 2500 to a X port and doing a call forward to the Main Listed number. This is done on both PBX's. So to get to the local attendant dial 0. To get to the remote attendant dial 00.

This has been working for about 10 years with little or no problems. Only problem is to make sure that the forward is done after a system reset or reload.

Hope this helps

1a2 to ip I seen it all

We only have 1 System here but I could use VDN and use 00 for the other location that might not be too much of a change for the users.(oops did I say that out loud?)

Change...its pretty much a swear word.
