Recently, whenever i move a file from one folder to another, and try to open it, it says either i dont have enough disk space, access is denied, or the file is currently in use, which it isn't. I restarted the computer numerous times, but it hasn't done anything. I can't open picture files, music files, pretty much anything i move. This is a recent problem and has never occured before.

Have a look at the File Access and Security Permissions for the file or the folder containing it, make sure your permissions are correct.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP (Q308421)

If it is not related to any of the above try these -

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

When i restarted my computer later on today, my computer automatically did a disk scan, and found errors, but this didn't fix my problem. I tried system restore, this did nothing. I restored to way before when i was having this problem. I double checked, and i am an Administrator. When i right clicked on the folder and clicked on the sharing tab, the make this folder private box was checked, highlighted and grayed out. If i had Administrator status, why was this grayed out? I moved it to the shared folder and then everything was fine, so i thought i could move it to the desktop again. But when i moved it back, i can no longer access the whole folder, not just the files inside. All it says is access denied. Still haven't tried the safe mode way, and i do not have my XP cd handy. Any other advice?

Tell us about your file system and operating system this may be relevant to any solution.

Which ever user made this folder Private will have to remove that restriction. If this is XP Home and not FAT32 you may be able to access the Security tab in Safe Mode and also take ownership there.
