2 weeks ago we moved all of our DID's from copper to 2 T1 circuits. Ever since then, our fax machines and modems have been freaking out. Fax transmissions drop in the middle of transmissions and modems are having problems connecting.

Is there an issue with analog transmissions over digital circuits????

Are you having any problems with Voice? I'm wondering if you're having a clocking issue or such. Problem with the modems and faxes could be the voice is clipping and causing your problems.

Find the board location of your T1's in the switch and do a list meas ds1 log xxxx where 'xxxx' is the board location. This will allow you to see if you are taking errors on the spans. If so, contact your telco.

Also, what type of service are the spans, PRI-ISDN, TIE, etc.? We can make sure that your trunk group is setup correctly.

Hi

Is there an issue with analog transmissions over digital circuits????

Yes it is. There is a parameter of ds1 form: DCP/Analog Bearer Capability: (it should be 3.1kHz)
And there is Loss group config in trunk groups and station forms.

Dropped fax and modem calls are normally caused by a clocking problem. Make sure that your switch is set to clock off the T1's instead of clocking internally. Type "Status Sync". Your primary and secondary sync sources should be your DS1 board locations, not the location of internal tone clock. If the switch is set to clock off the tone clock type "Disable Sync". Once the syncronization is disabled type "Change Sync" and enter the location of your DS1 boards in the Primary and Secondary syncronization fields. Now type "Set Sync" along with the location of your primary sync source. Type "Enable Sync" You can now check the status of the syncronization. The switch should be receiving it's clocking source from the network.

I agree with what the others are saying ... we had this exact same problem.

Make sure you check your timing and that it is external.
