Hi All,

I was wondering if any one could help with direction or suggestions.

Our legato backup server is W2k Server/DC. We are planning to rebuild the server with Win2k3. This server is attached to our backup library via scsi controller.

How should I go about it?

If I start wiping the server, and reinstall the O/S, patch, etc, than Networker, will that recognize the existing backup jobs in the library?

Is there something that I need to backup, and restore later?

Your suggestions are very appriciated.

Thanks.

You need to backup the databases and config files, /nsr ...

Mouktar, see the disaster recovery guide for mor info.

Basicly, you´ll need to first perform a backup of the configuration and media/index databases. You do this by running "savegrp -v -O -l full". The -O flag will backup only the databases and configuration, if you have other data on the local drives that you want, just perform a regular full backup.

Make sure that when you re-install the server, you assign it the same name and ip as it had before. Also, make sure you add it into the same domain as it was before. New domain = New name in NetWorker! Install the same NetWorker version as before. The simply run the mmrecov command to restore the media database and the configuration. After this, run nsrck -L7 to restore all indexes.

But please take a look in the disatser recovery guide for further details.

Cheers!

Thank you all for your response and assistant.

I know using the same host name is the easiest, but my problem is the current networker server will be decommisioned, and another existing production server will be used for the backup,

Both the name and IP# can't be changed, and it is in a diff domain.

Basically it is going to whole different server.

I know this is not easy, but it has to be done.

Your thoughts are very appriciated,

Again, thanks Maverick and Martin for your assistant on this.

Doing both at the same time is not what you should do.
- The easiest way is to rebuild the server as mentioned.
- Then bring it to another domain
- Then assign the other name.
- Finally, update the server to the latest version.

Do not forget that you would need new auth-codes in this case.

If your renameing etc ... scrap what I mentioned ..

Only useful if your recovering back to exactly what you started with, eg. same version of n.worker etc ...
