I have one Exchange 2003 server in my domain. It is about 2 yrs old and is starting to have issues. Im getting some db corruption errors, I have some security problems with accounts that no longer exist still appear, etc....

I am thinking about starting from scratch (do a backup of my priv and pub dbs beforehand of course)...wiping the server, reinstall the OS, reinstall Exchange 2003, SPs, and then restore my dbs...since this is the only Exchange server in my organization, am I going to run into all sorts of problems...

Ive read the MS article regarding moving to new hardware w/ same server name....if I do the Exchange install w/ the /disasterrecovery switch, would that get me where I want to be (Im concerned I would carry over my messed up security settings)....

Any suggestions appreciated...

If i were you i would do the exchange dbase backups, uninstall exchange, this will remove it from the AD. run up your new server with the same server name ip address etc. install a new instance of Exchange server 2003, then reinstall your backups to the right folders. You will then more than likely have to run eseutil on the databases.

You can do the /disasterrecovery option without removing exchange, i have done this in the past and hit all sorts of problems.
