We are looking at rebuilding our Exchange 2003 server due to performance issues. Detais are-

Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise
Server 2003 Standard
Backups are reliable and verified

I've been reading up on this and my question is can I rebuild the server with Server 2003 Enterprise and still be able to restore my database, etc, or am I required to use exactly the same OS? Server name and hardware will be identical to the existing setup, though we may double our RAM from 4GB to 8GB if we can move to 2003 Enterprise.

What do you think 8GB of RAM is going to get your on a 32bit OS?

What are you trying to get by going to Windows Server Enterprise? Are you wanting to do clustering?

Build the new box, install Exchange in the same Org, and follow kb 822931 from top to bottom.

Ahh, misspoke- they were toying with going to the 64 bit OS, but no longer. I'd love to follow that KB article. Unfortunately the folks involved here haven't got a second server to stand up so we're going to have to approach this from a disaster-recovery point-of-view.

At least that simplifies matters. Thanks for the reply.
