Just wondering, why does some Software installations require a reboot while others do not? Is it only because some active dlls need to be upgraded or is there more to it.

Possible reasons off the top of my head:
System files were replaced,
services or drivers were installed (some of which require reboots, some do not),
registry settings were changed,
backwards compatiblity. (the installer may not know which version of windows you have, and 95/NT almost always needed a reboot)
I'm sure there's more. ________
