RealTek 8139 NIC & XP Pro won't Ip-connect

Hi, I know there has been a msg related to this, though I can't reply to that for whatever reason. And no answer there too...

I have EXACTLY the same problem someone else posted here:

New Clean XP Pro standard Install (tried twice)on an Asus-P4T, P41,5 GHz, 512 MBram system. NIC is a Realtek member of the 8139 10/100 family.
All devices work properly, ping localhost works fine. Hub 'sees' PC on MAC layer. My cable modem acts as DHCP server, but pc doesn't see it and assigns a private address instead. ARP table empty, HOSTS is empty. It should work but doesn't, neither does a static address in LAN's range.

Anyone a clue ? (No, it ain't with cables, bent pins etc. Card worked fine in old system, same XP. Maybe mainboard/XP combination, a Bios setting ? (I installed latest BIOS flash dated Nov 18 2002 (really new!!))

I have a weird problem with the same config:

Clean install of XP pro with a Realtek 8139B NIC - but XP wont load the driver for it (its a very generic card so I thought XP would provide the driver - but it didnt) so i downloaded the driver from the realtek site and tried to install it but still the driver will not install.

Weird.

Anyone else had this problem??

In Some Cases you must to edit the properties of the NIC, and change the Connection Type, you may try with a 10Mb Full Duplex, usually it has autodetect type.

Try it, i have a similar problem with a Compaq PC, and it resolve my problem.
