We have a client with Internet Explorer 5.5 and Windows 95
who is having a problem playing any RealPlayer or
MediaPlayer files within the browser.

She will go to a site and attempt to play one of the files and will get an error message:

"...IEXPLORE caused a stack fault in module <unknown>....".

Now I did not get the remainder of the error message.

Both RealPlayer and MediaPlayer give the same exact type of message IN ALL CASES.

Click OK and you are booted out of Internet Explorer.

I have uninstalled IE, reinstalled it again but no go.

Does anyone have any direction on how I might approach this.

I do not want to re-ghost the machine - last resort since this client has a lot of custom software locally.

Thanks

John -

Sounds as though both RealPlayer & the MediaPlayer may be "battling" over who can play particular files. I would try to uninstall the MediaPlayer first. Within the details for the iE - it's referencing plug-in settings.

After the first uninstall, I would re-boot, and uninstall RealPlayer. Again - reboot. At this point, try the RealPlayer install first. Only associate it with ra* files.

Since RealPlayer WANTS to "plug" itself into everything, and MS MediaPlayer WILL plug into everything - this may resolve your issues by process of elimination.

Open System.ini in Notepad.
In the [386enh] section, add the line:
