Really laggy 1.53 gigz 1768 ddr ram

these are my specs
gf4 ti4400
768 333mhz ddr ram
1.53 gig amd
30gig hdd

and when i click on the timeline to choose different spots on the movie clip in premiere or just about anything its really laggy, at times it takes about a second to go back a frame. its really bad and i dont know what to do
my viutural memory is at 368 i think
also
i boight a 256 ddr ram fro kingmen and the 512 piece online fro a no name brand
 
With just one HDD (if that's what you have), a possible contibutory factor is disk fragmentation.

Better to have a separate HDD for video, preview files etc, or to partition a single disk, to keep the frequent operating system file activity away from video files.

In any event, if you haven;t done so recently, try a defrag.
 
I have figured it out, it runs just fine till around 2 min 30 sec into ANY video then it gets REALLY choppy. i havent degragged, and my hdd have been recently making wierd noises
