I'm new here. And I need help.
I've taken on a new job and the shop uses Quark 4.1. The young staff isn't very savvy, so they have awkward short cuts to get by. And I'm very, very rusty on Quark after being away from it for five years.
We write a lot of our own stuff, but we also get documents from a variety of sources. The outside docs are copied into MS Word and edited, then placed on a shared server. "Get text" brings the text into the template, but on the stuff we copied from the emails, press releases and web sites, we lose the returns and the paragraphs.
I have tried "save as" Word, save as text, but nothing will hold the paragraph indents and the returns as with the documents we write ourselves in a proven template.
From the proven Word template where we write stuff ourselves, the copy flows perfectly. It even will holds many text attributes. The page moves rapidly to the printer. From our contributors, it's a mess--to many returns, weird indents on the paragraphs, and such. I want to have someone clean it up in Word, but even pasted into the template, it's still a mess.
I'd be happy with a procedure recommendations if you don't have a technical solution. As it is, the pages are looking terrible because many errors don't get caught.
Question: How can I prepare text from a variety of sources for Quark where the body copy flows consistently into the format to hold paragraph indents and line returns?
Thanks for the help. I'm an old print guy who went to the web who is happy to be back in print.
