Reading a CA Complete v4.00 .mdl file? Help required please.

Hi everyone, I have been helped a lot already by the excellent forums on this site, now it's time for my first posting and request for help.

I have some old .mdl files (created back in 1994/95 with a program called, as far as i remember, CA Complete!). I was using Win3.1 at the time.

I would like to rescue them and get them into a format where I can read them again.

Unfortunately, searching for 'ca complete', 'ca-complete' etc. only brings up results for califormia and millions of pages with the word 'complete' in them.

The MDL file extension only brings up Quake models.

If I open the file with excel, it doesn't format correctly.

sorry, i just found out it's called CA-CompETE (not compLete). oops!

still no joy on finding a reader or the orig. program for it though.

since my orig posts i did find out more (useless) info.

that CA-Compete v5 (£400 :E) is dated 1994. I can't afford to spend that much and it wouldn't run on XP either i guess.

I have found that the spreadsheet program was later bundled into Supercalc. Unfortunately, that isn't available as a trial/full download anywhere.

I guess I need a spreadsheet conversion program, or something that will let me read it in any format that is legible. or.. i need some nice person who is still running win3.1 or win95 that could salvage the data for me. Anyone?

If mainegeek's suggestion doesn't work, maybe you could find something with a google search for freeware/shareware file conversion programs.

I don't think Lotus could read it a few years ago.. and i did spend 6 hours of searching with goole yesterday, without much success. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have e-mailed a few people that I have found posting in various forums about the program. Hopefully one of them will reply with some help.

I knew I had a ca product but it turned out to be the wordprocessor, not the spreadsheet.
I see the problem in the searches too-most of the file conversion stuff turns out to be grapics oriented.
(207 files in zd net for file conversion!)
I also uploaded the file and tried to open it in lotus (millenium ed.)-didnt work.
I did find the link below but after what I saw yesterday I'm not very optimistic about it including what you want.

Found these two links-one shows a software compilation
second a review that indicates there may be some trouble getting it installed on later operating systems.

Dont know if you could find this in your area.

thanks for that info Diogenes... i just got home 3am here!! i'll check though what you suggested tomorrow (today?)

I did get a copy of Lotus for Win Millenium.. it installed ok on my XP.. but wouldn't red the file.

Also, i have had no replies from 4 people that I had fould qouting similar problems.. hey, i live in hope.

another update on my (doomed to fail?) quest soon.
