Hi All
Is it possible to add a Read/Write Replica of a root partition of 1 NDS tree and save it on a server in a different NDS tree? and if so how is it done??
Many thanks sstoppel for your reply.
The only reason I asked the question is that we have a number of nds trees(historically because the users were on very poor comms links to the main building) and there is only one server per tree at the remote sites. It would be nice to have some sort of backup of the nds for these servers apart from using backup routines
Dave, if you setup your partitions and replicas correctly, you shouldn't have a problem with having all servers in the same tree despite the slow links. That's a fairly common practice.
For example... you could set it up so that each of your wan locations has it's own partition with one replica on a server in the main office and one replica on the server at the wan location.
Not only would it provide NDS redundancy, but it would also make your life much easier from a management standpoint.
If you have Netware 6.5 you can add servers without having to buy additional licenses. 6.5 uses User Access Licences but you can build up to 1000 servers if you like. You could build a server out of workstation-grade hardware and put a r/w replica on it. The server doesn't need to do anything else. One server per tree is sort of asking for trouble.
That said, having a replica offsite is a good idea in case the building burns down.
