I know this has been a problem in other versions of Outlook but when a user has requested a read receipt, if the email has been read in the "preview pane / reading pane" a receipt is not sent. If the email is then deleted, a receipt is sent to say the email was deleted without being read. Is there a way to change this?

Don't know whether this will work but there is a "Mark messages as read in preview pane" which is a checkable option with a time delay in the Others, Preview Pane section of tools.
Has this been switched on?
I read most of my e-mails in preview pane and no-one pulls me for deleting without reading!
I'm on Outlook 200 SR1
