Good Morning -
After a reinstallation of the SERVER in a SBS W2K3 environment, all of our active shared folders have become "Read-only" and it won't change. Unchecking the box in any of the properties boxes results in the server apearing as though it is changing the setting on child objects, however, closing and reopening the box reveals that "Read-only" is enforced again.

Any ideas?

It sounds like these folders may be inheriting the permissions from the parent object. Look at the properties and make sure the box is not checked to inherit priveleges. Once that is done, try to assign the right settings. If it is still not working correctly, try to have your user take ownership of the directories and try to set permissions.

No joy. The folder appears to be inheriting from the root of the drive (in this case E:) if that is the case. Changing the folder owner appears to not make a difference. Note - the previous 'owner' is at this stage a non-existant account that is being replaced with an admin. priv. account

Have you checked the 'share' permissions? These are set to read only by default in Win2k3 when shares are created.

BOFH - Yes - and double checked. Everyone = Full Control on these shares, both in Shares and Security. That Read-Only check box just won't uncheck.

Is there a policy somewhere lording over this that I am missing? The E$ default share will not all share permission changes of course. The top level shared folders are infact set not to inherit.

Do you mean NTFS read only, or the read only attribute box next to hidden?

Yes.. you got it.. we're cruisin' again. Now onward to restore *calendars*! Everything cleared up about 30 minutes ago.. still running into pockets of incorrect settings but they are disappearing as things seem to percolate through the syatem.

Thanks for the assistance!
