Is it possible to distribute an excel spreadsheet on the web [i.e. so people can download it] and set it such that they cannot edit the spreadsheet in any way.
As with downloads, the file permissions would be accessable to whoever downloads it. I do not wish this. I want people to be able to download it and not be able to edit it.

There must be something in excel to cater for this type of distro. What about setting a password on the spreadsheet and setting permission within that.
Actual file permissions themselves would be no good I think.

One thing that I do is to use 2 separate xls files. 1 to view the data with links to the other document then they can only edit the read page while the data is in a protected file on the web. Ask your web server manager to locate or create a secure file. Then create the read page and move that from the workbook and the links will stay intact.

this is only a one cell sample but will give you the basic principle. I also don't have this in a secure file.
